The Avatar Of Art Movies?

Legendary German director Werner Herzog is widely known for his bevy of idiosyncratic features (Aguirre: Wrath Of God, the Bad Lieutenant reimagining) and documentaries (notably, Grizzly Man).

The Herzog's latest fact-meets-philosophical-cartwheels offering is Cave Of Forgotten Dreams, a 3D indie voyage into French caverns which house the oldest discovered paintings on the planet.

Granted rare access to culturally defining artwork, Herzog's cinematic excursion is an engrossing presentation of old-school creativity mixed with what new technology can achieve - on a budget.

I'm joined by freelance film commentator Alice Tynan and The Sci-Fi Channel's Oscar Hillerstrom to explore the Cave Of Forgotten Dreams - and marvel/snigger at Herzog's merry madness.

The Conspirator: In times of war the law falls silent

Who doesn’t love a good historical film? You’ve got actors frocked up in oldey worldy costumes, the staggering attention to period detail and the fascination that comes with knowing that fact is stranger than fiction. All of this holds true in Robert Redford’s intriguing account of the infamous Abraham Lincoln assassination and the ensuing military trial of the one female charged with conspiracy: Mary Surratt.

Robin Wright (The Princess Bride) and James McAvoy (Last King of Scotland) lead an impressive ensemble cast as Redford delivers an enthralling courtroom drama as well as an all too topical allegory about Constitutional infringements in post 9/11 America.

Alice Tynan sits down with fellow film critics Ed Gibbs and Beth Wilson to geek out over Redford’s history lesson and discuss how he is in no way shy about making Surratt’s story keenly relevant to audiences today.
