No-one does grim quite like the Scandinavians

This true story exposes a kind of cruelty that is often disguised as discipline.

Set on a desolate island of Norway in a juvenile correction facility for boys, King of Devil’s Island is a stark film that will have you shivering in sympathy and deliver courage and justice in most unexpected ways. This forgotten hell is ruled by Stellan Skarsgård, in a role vastly different from his recent turn in The Avengers.

The Sydney Morning Herald’s Giles Hardie, Lauren Smelcher-Sams from Girlfriend Magazine and myself, Jo Cohen, relive the experience of having seen this film. It is superb, but not for the faint hearted.

The Monarch of independent movies

Cinemas should be palaces, places where we go to worship the silver screen arts, places of glorious comfort to while away the hours of entertainment.

Alice Tynan and I sat down with Palace Films' General Manager Nicolas Whatson to discuss the steps they are taking to ensure we cinema-goers feel like royalty, the lengths Palace go to in order to find films that will meet our illustrious standards and the state of independent film making and cinema distribution in Australia.

Join us for a guided tour of the Palace with a few select anecdotes from our tour guide.
